The Paint Professional

Werner 17' adjustable ladder

Picture
This is a ladder that I now personally own. If I could only take one ladder with me to a job, it would be this one. It had very sturdy construction and adjusts to fit almost any possible situation. I have used this ladder as an extension ladder (which I was able to reach a 22 foot ceiling, the ladder extends 15'-17') on a staircase, and as a basic stepladder. When I had my own painting company I would have many customers watch in awe as I maneuvered this ladder onto a set of steps to continue stripping wallpaper or painting a wall. Many of my customers ended up buying one of these ladders.

Pros: sturdy construction, able to be manipulated to fit most job needs, durable!

Cons: A bit heavy but manageable, and pricey!

Purdy Pro-Extra Brush

Picture
I tested the Purdy Pro-Extra 2 1/2" brush. I found it to hold a good amount of paint, leave very minimal brush strokes, and give a great cut in line. I used this brush with many different sheens of paint and many shades of colors ranging from very deep reds to shades of white. This brush also cleaned up very well and held it's bristle shape after much repeated use and washings.

Pros: great durability, nice weight in the hand, holds plenty of paint, great cut in line,  and easily cleaned out

Cons: price

Duration Interior

Picture
The Duration line of products can be found only at Sherwin Williams. This is without a doubt one of the best covering, most durable interior paints on the market (there is also an exterior Duration line, but more on that another time). This paint applies nicely and has incredible coverage and depth of color tones. One great thing about the interior line of Duration paint is that is available in a Matte finish. The matte finish is between satin and flat on the sheen scale and is the finish most preferred by customers for low light reflectivity yet still washable. This paint will come at a premium though at around $40.00 per gallon.

Pros: Great coverage, the matte finish is awesome, durable, washable.

Cons: Price (but if you only need a gallon or two it's affordable enough).

Harmony- "Earth Friendly Paint"

Picture
This is a low-odor, NO VOC, latex interior paint from Sherwin Williams. I have used this paint on several occasions and have been pleased with the results. The odor is almost non-existent. The fain smell almost reminds me of a mild play-dough type aroma. The paint applies easily and covers pretty well. You are somewhat limited on what colors you can get made in this paint because of the limited bases available for mixing. So if you are looking for ultra-deep colors you are out of luck with this product. That being said, the majority of the Sherwin Williams Color Palette can be made in this product.  Harmony is absolutely one of the greenest interior paints that you can apply. It proudly holds both the good housekeeping seal of approval and the green sure insignia. If you want another earth friendly product that covers slightly better and can be made in any color then take a look at Duration Home Interior Latex (previously reviewed). Duration Home is low-voc and low odor. Other interior paints that fall into earth friendly categories include:Benjamin Moore Pristine EcoSpec,  Olympic Paint and Stain also has a zero voc category.

*VOC Definition- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects.

Pros: NO VOC and Low Odor, easy to apply, easy clean-up, and inhibits the growth of mildew and mold.

Cons: Has moderate coverage and a slightly limited color palette it can be mixed into.
